As you are all aware we are experiencing water restrictions in Cape Town because of the drought. At the Parish Pastoral Council meeting on Thursday night, and also in line with a directive received from the Archbishop, it was agreed that we have to limit the use of our facilities to drastically reduce our water usage.

Our account has already been identified as “high” usage and a restrictive device has been fitted which cuts off our supply as soon as we reach our limit on any given day. In view of this, we have to advise that the kitchen is out of bounds in the Parish centre.

Parish meetings can still happen, although limited, but no refreshments may be served using our water. Should you wish to continue with your meetings, please advise those attending to bring their own water and all garbage will need to be collected and removed from the premises.

One of the projects St Michael’s SVP are involved with is in conjunction with U-Turn. Thank you once again to all our generous donors. It is through you generosity that we are able to assist with projects such as this. God bless you. U-TURN VOUCHERS available from the Bookshop – cost of a pack of 5 is now R100.00 which equates to R20.00 per meal.

PRAYER TO ST MICHAEL

Saint Michael the Archangel,
Defend us in battle;
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil -
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray.
And do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
By the power of God, thrust into hell
Satan and all evil spirits
Who wander through the world
For the ruin of souls. AMEN.

Covenant of One

Pope Francis’ prayer for this Missionary Month

Heavenly Father, when your only begotten Son Jesus Christ rose from the dead, he commissioned his followers to “go and make disciples of all nations” and you remind us that through our Baptism we are made sharers in the mission of the Church. Empower us by the gifts of the Holy Spirit to be courageous and zealous in bearing witness to the Gospel, so that the mission entrusted to the Church, which is still very far from completion, may find new and efficacious expressions that bring life and light to the world. Help us make it possible for all peoples to experience the saving love and mercy of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.

Catholic Women’s League National Council NPO 000-681

A Prayer for our Priests

We thank you, God our Father, for those who have responded to our call to priestly ministry. Accept this prayer we offer on their behalf: Fill your priests with the sure knowledge of your love. Open their hearts to the power and consolation of the Holy Spirit. Lead them to new depths of union with your Son. Increase in them profound faith in the Sacraments they celebrate as they nourish, strengthen and heal us. Lord Jesus Christ, grant that these, your priests, may inspire us to strive for holiness by the power of their example, as men of prayer who ponder your word and follow your will. O Mary, Mother of Christ and our mother, guard with your maternal care these chosen ones, so dear to the Heart of your Son. Intercede for our priests, that offering the Sacrifice of your Son, they may be conformed more each day to the image of your Son, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen

The prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Parents Prayer

Oh, Heavenly Father, make me a better parent. Teach me to understand my children, to listen patiently to what they have to say, and to answer all their questions kindly.

Keep me from interrupting them or contradicting them. Make me as courteous to them as I would have them be to me. Forbid that I should ever laugh at their mistakes or resort to shame or ridicule when they displease me.

May I never punish them for my own selfish satisfaction or to show my power. Let me not tempt my child to lie or steal.

And guide me hour by hour that I may demonstrate by all I say and do that honesty produces happiness.

Reduce, I pray, the meanness in me. And when I am out of sorts, help me, O Lord, to hold my tongue.

May I ever be mindful that my children are children and I should not expect of them the judgement of adults.

Let me not rob them of the opportunity to wait on themselves and make decisions.

Bless me with the bigness to grant them all their reasonable requests, and the courage to deny them privileges I know will do them harm.

Make me fair and just and kind.

And fit me, O Lord, to be loved and respected and imitated by my children. Amen.

Child Safeguarding Policy

'The Archdiocesan Child Safeguarding Policy, promulgated in October 2015 seeks to support this celebration of life and to guide us in our interactions with the children and youth entrusted to our care.

This Policy states that: Each child shall be cherished and affirmed as a gift from God with an inherent right to dignity of life and bodily integrity which shall be respected, nurtured and protected by all.

1.1. The Archdiocese is committed to safeguarding all children who interact with the Church; Should you wish to read the full policy you can access it on the Archdiocesan website at http://adct.org.za/child-safeguarding-policy-resources/

Our Parish Council has adopted the Child Safeguarding Policy and has begun the implementation of the policy in 2017 through ensuring that all those who are required to have the necessary clearance to minister in the parish have done so. This is an ongoing process and will be repeated each year. The contact details of the Archdiocesan Contact persons are on display in the Parish Centre and the the Church Foyer.'
