The St Michael's catering team has a well-earned reputation of providing "the best place in town" for the clergy to eat! This ministry was established a number of years ago, and during that time many wonderful women have given their time and talents in providing meals or snacks for functions hosted by the parish.
O Almighty God,
Whose great power and eternal Wisdom embraces the universe, Watch over all police officers that we today commend to your loving care. Grant them your protection as they risk their lives to keep us and our families safe and secure. Unite them safely with their families after their duty has ended. We pray, help them keep our streets and homes safe, day and night. Fill their spirit with strength to do what is right and needed in their daily assignments. For the police officers who have died in the line of duty, we ask that You show them your mercy and grant them eternal rest. We ask that their families be healed, comforted and protected from more harm.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Oh, Heavenly Father, make me a better parent. Teach me to understand my children, to listen patiently to what they have to say, and to answer all their questions kindly.
Keep me from interrupting them or contradicting them. Make me as courteous to them as I would have them be to me. Forbid that I should ever laugh at their mistakes or resort to shame or ridicule when they displease me.
May I never punish them for my own selfish satisfaction or to show my power. Let me not tempt my child to lie or steal.
And guide me hour by hour that I may demonstrate by all I say and do that honesty produces happiness.
Reduce, I pray, the meanness in me. And when I am out of sorts, help me, O Lord, to hold my tongue.
May I ever be mindful that my children are children and I should not expect of them the judgement of adults.
Let me not rob them of the opportunity to wait on themselves and make decisions.
Bless me with the bigness to grant them all their reasonable requests, and the courage to deny them privileges I know will do them harm.
Make me fair and just and kind.
And fit me, O Lord, to be loved and respected and imitated by my children. Amen.
